Here’s a webcam view of Pioneer Courthouse Square in Portland, Oregon to help you enjoy the snow without getting out in it.
Richard D. Peterson was a veteran worker for Hewlett-Packard. HP didn’t ask Peterson to change his beliefs, didn’t object to his letters to the editor of a local paper, and didn’t mind his bumper stickers. Peterson didn’t talk about his beliefs at work, nor did anyone complain about his beliefs. But he did make a poster about is beliefs and put it in his cubicle. His poster was removed, he was required to attend some meetings with management, he was given time off with pay to ‘consider his position,’ he was required to attend more meetings with management, then he was fired.
When HP had a campaign to encourage acceptance of ‘diversity’ (including gay and lesbian diversity), Peterson posted some Bible verses in his cubicle. One of the verses was Leviticus 20:13 “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”
I’m going to give you all time to consider your position on this.
For several years I sold used and rare childrens books with an emphasis on pop-up and movable books. I saw thousands of them by hundreds of artists over hundreds of years. In my opinion, the best of the best of the best is Robert Sabuda. And Robert Sabuda is coming to Portland! Make sure you go see the exhibit of his work at the Library.
“Having heard Stan Brakhage speak about his hypnogogic vision & having heard him mention that brine shrimp were used in the making of some of his films & having then seen some recent examples, a few people were horrified to have not seen any disclaimer announcing that “No Sea Monkeys were Harmed in the Making of This Film”. It’s a well-known fact that certain paints used in hand-painting celluloid can lead to bladder cancer. This cancer in brine shrimp is particularly harsh since problems with voiding water in sea creatures can lead to their DROWNING – an especially horrible death! Imagine suffocating from breathing air! There’s simply no place to turn to. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Sea-Monkeys by Experimental Filmmakers has been created as response to this disturbing situation.”
It’s already won a bazillion awards. But please allow pleasant to encourage you to go see The Station Agent.
Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) said last week that people will ‘never find unicorns, leprechauns, gay ‘marriages’ in Iowa’ because these things ‘just don’t exist.’ Gay marriage has been banned in Iowa since 1997, but gay divorce is legal.
